Sailing Sports in Jepara

| Jepara Sailing Club - http://www.jepara-sailing-club.com Koos and Joost sailed four races Alex joined Egbert in his speedmachine but only to find out that the conventional cats had a lower top speed but much higher cruising speed. In a freshening breeze sailing became spectacular. As we -most of the time- sail single handed, we're not used to dead weight on board. Nonetheless the Dart 18 with the new enlarged sailarea and genaker went like shit of the shovel. The Dart was totally reconditioned last week, new chainplates, sheets and a brilliant spray job (in the furniture sprayboot from Egbert) As the boat was dried out entirely the owner believes she is lighter and therefore faster. First race neck to neck from Teluk Awur clubhouse to Egbert massage parlor at Semat. Boats finished in 30 seconds after a course of six miles. Second race over 12 miles showed some shocking results. Wind dropped and Egbert could not lift his trimaran and had no advantage of the hydrofoils. The usual windchange at lunchtime brought the Dart and Koos' Hobie 16 floating together. The Dart only finished seconds after Koos despite having 80 kilo's Alex on board. Third race around the fishing traps was gloriously won by Joost and his wife as her 55 kilo's were needed badly to avoid capsize. Koos has to work hard to survive and could not sail under full power and lost with 45 seconds. On the way home Alex and Joost performed extremely well with a 17 knots speed on a 20 year old Dart!!!!! But Koos deserved the glory of the day by sailing single handed (Who wants to sail with Koos?) and covering the most mileages by far. We have not seen Koos eversince as he is on an oxygen program in a recovery clinic were gorgeous Javanese girls are taking care of his overstressed muscles. The club is currently in the process of acquiring one, maybe two, new Fx- ones Hobies and one Hobie 17. |
